The expansion of cultivation is certainly a sign of progress:

various commercial crops like jute sugar wheat cotton are grown

these crops are used domestically and some were also exported to different parts of the world

foodgrains which are needed to feed huge population are produced

some crops are required as raw materials for industrial production e.g.,sugarcane,cotton ,etc are also grown

cultivation of land yield agricultural products and revenue and enhance the income of the state
