The expression ax + by has value 7 when x = 2, y = 1. When x = -1, y = 1, it has value

Answer:

(a,b) = (6,7)

Step-by-step explanation:

When ax + by = 7,

x = 2, y = 1

∴2a + b = 7       →Eq 1

When ax + by = 1,

x = -1, y = 1

∴- a + b = 1           →Eq 2

On adding the 2 equations, we get

a = 6

Put value of a in Eq 2

∴ -6 + b= 1

b = 6 + 1

b = 7
