The factor which affects the compaction is a) moisture content b) compacting content c) method of compaction d) all the above
Answers
answer is D
Compaction is the use of mechanical energy for a soil so that its particles can be rearranged and reducing the zero ratio.
It applies in the process of improving the properties of existing soil or for filling in embankments, road bases, runways, earth dams, and the reinforced earth's walls. Composition is also used to create a level surface during construction of buildings. Generally there is no change in the content of water and the size of individual soil particles.
The objectives of compaction are:
• To increase the strength of clay shear and therefore its bearing capacity.
• To reduce the later settlement under the workload.
• To reduce soil permeability, make it more difficult for water flow.
Laboratory compaction
The difference in combination with water content and compact effort is determined for the first time in the laboratory. several tests can be performed with standard measures such as:
• Indian Standard Light Compaction Test (similar to Standard Procter Test)
• Indian standard heavy compaction test (similar to modified proct test)
Indian Standard Light Compaction Test
Soil is compacted in 3 cm layers 1000 cm3 mold, each layer receives 25 bumps of 2.6 kg ramers which fall from the height of 310 mm above the soil. Compaction on various moisture content is repeated.
Indian Standard Heavy Compaction Test
It was found that the Light Compaction Test (standard test) could not reproduce the measured density in the field under heavy loading conditions, and this led to the development of heavy compaction test (revised test). Equipment and process are essentially the same, which are used for standard testing, except that the soil is compressed into 5 layers, each layer also has 25 bounce. The same mold is also used. To provide increased compact efforts, a heavy rimmer of 4.9 kg and more than 450 mm high drop height is used.
