y = a(x -2)(x + 4) = a (x^2 + 2x -8)
= a(x + 1)^2 - 9 ==> ((y/a)+9) = (x+1)^2 or X^2 = Y where X = (x+1) & Y= ((y/a)+9) which is equation of a parabola with axis X = 0 or (x+1) = 0 and vertex X = 0 = Y ==> (x+1) = 0 or x = - 1 & (y/a) + 9 = 0 or y = -9a . Hence the vertex (c, d) = (-1, -9a) etc.
