Factorise the polynomial:
6x² + 11x + 3
For factorising the given polynomial we need to find a number which when
- Multiplied gives 6×3 = 18
- Added gives 11
➳ Here, factors of 18 are → 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18
From the factors above we can easily get to know that the required Numbers are 9 and 2
9 × 2 = 18 ; 9 + 2 = 11
➟ Now on splitting the middle term of the polynomial,
6x² + (9x + 2x) + 3
Now, let's group the first 2 terms separately and the last 2 terms separately.
⇒ (6x² + 9x) + (2x + 3)
Taking out 3x as a common factor from the first 2 terms,
⇒ 3x(2x + 3) + 1(2x + 3)
⇒ (3x + 1) (2x + 3)
Therefore the factors are
- 3x + 1
- 2x + 3
