.  Sir John Shore was appointed as Governor General in the year 1793 and he followed the ‘policy of neutrality’ which resulted in decline of recognition and prestige of the East India Company
.  During his tenure, the Marathas attacked the Nizam and defeated them. When the Nizam approached Sir John Shore for help he refused to do so. 
  Also, he did not deal properly with the mutiny of European officers in Bengal and hence, he was called back by the Company in 1798
