Solution -

• The father's age is 5/2 times his daughter's age.

• Eight years ago, the age of the father was four times his daughter's age.

We have to find the present age of the daughter . Let us assign the age a variable of x .

The present age of the daughter is x years.

Age of the father :

> 5/2 times his daughters age

> 5/2 x

Now , 8 years ago

Age of father : 5/2 x - 8

Age of daughter : x - 8

So

5/2 x - 8 = 4( x - 8)

> 5/2 x - 8 = 4x - 32

> 4x - 5/2 x = 24

> 3/2 x = 24

> x = 16 .

Answer : The present age of the daughter is 16 years .
