EXPLANATION.

Let the age of father be = x years.

Let the age of son be = y years.

The father age is 6 times the age of his son.

=> x = 6y ....... (1)

4 years hence the age of the father will be

four times his son age.

=> Let the present age of father = x + 4

=> Let the present age of son = y + 4

=> x + 4 = 4 ( y + 4 )

=> x + 4 = 4y + 16

=> x - 4y = 12 ..... (2)

From equation (1) and (2) we get,

=> put the value of equation (1) in (2)

we get,

=> 6y - 4y = 12

=> 2y = 12

=> y = 6

put the value of y = 6 in equation (1)

we get,

=> x = 6(6) = 36

Therefore,

present age of son = y = 6 years.

present age of father = x = 6y = 36 years.

Hence the present age of son is 6 years and father is 36 years.
