let son's present age be x and father's age be 6x

After 4 years son will become x+4 and father will become 6x+4

therefore, 4(x+4) =6x+4

=> 4x+16=6x+4

=>16-4=6x-4x

=>12=2x

so, x =12/2 =6

Therefore, son's present age is 6 and father's present age is (6×6) =36
