The merchant, Yakshadatta was a very shrewd, cunning and clever man. When young Ratnanka went to him asking for money, he pointed out to a dead rat lying on the road telling Ratnanka to sell it and earn money for starting his business.
However, as luck would have it, Ratnanka was not only able to sell that dead rat but within three years he became a reputed food grain merchant. Ratnanka prepared a rat baked in clay and coated it in gold.
He presented it to Yakshadatta as a token of appreciation for his advice that he gave Ratnanka two years ago. Yakshadatta understood that Ratnanka was no ordinary man and finally decided to get his only daughter married to him.
