THE FIGHT FOR PURNA SWARAJ WAS FOUGHT UNDER THE PRESIDENTSHIP OF JAWAHARLAL NEHRU.

Explanation: The Government of India Act 1935 and the Indian Independence Act 1947 were two major British laws passed before the Indian constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950. Both of these laws were repealed on November 26, 1949, the day the constituent assembly of India approved our constitution, under Article 395 of the current constitution.

We Indians, on the other hand, did not have the opportunity to write our own constitution overnight. Major choices about the fate of Indian people were made in London at the time.

There was a slow awakening over at least 100 years, and it was the unspoken yearning of the people of India to draught their own basic rule of the land. While describing the idea of Swaraj in 1922, Mahatma Gandhi stated that the Indian Constitution would be authored by Indians. This was most likely the earliest stated intention in relation to the Indians creating a constitution for the Indian people.

Six years later, in 1928, the Nehru Committee, headed by Moti Lal Nehru, produced the first constitution for India. Congress passed the Poorna Swaraj resolution a year later, at the Lahore session in December 1929.

Jawaharlal Nehru was elected president of the Congress during the same session. This 41-year-old anglophile, nobleman, and only son of Motilal Nehru had devoted his entire life to the national struggle and was the Congress's youngest president at the time. Gandhi's anointed successor to Congress leadership was eventually revealed to be him.

Therefore, The Indian National Congress issued the Purna Swaraj declaration (or complete independence from the British Empire) on December 19, 1929, in Lahore, under the presidency of Jawaharlal Nehru. Purna Swaraj Diwas was observed on January 26, 1930. Purna Swaraj meant total independence from the British Raj.
