The length of upper part of the pole  BC = 17 m

Step-by-step explanation:

From the figure

Length of the pole AC = 25 m

Let AB = x  &  BC = AC - AB

⇒ BC = 25 - x = BC'

From pythagoras theorm

(BC')^{2} = AB^{2} + AC' ^{2}

(25 -x)^{2}  = 15^{2} + x^{2}

625 + x^{2} - 50 x = 225 + x^{2} \\50 x = 400\\x = 8 m

Thus the length of upper part of the pole  BC = 25 - x

⇒ BC = 25 - x  = 25 - 8

⇒ BC = 17 m

Therefore the length of upper part of the pole  BC = 17 m
