The figure given below, shows two circles with the same centre. The radius of
the larger circle is 12 cm and the radius of the smaller circle is 5 cm.
Find:
a) the area of the larger circle,

b) the area of the smaller circle, (c) the shaded area between the two
circles. (rt = 3.14)

Answer: 1) area of larger circle = πr^2

= 3.14 × 12 × 12

=452.16 cm^2

2) area of smaller circle = πr^2

=3.14 × 5 × 5

=78.5 cm^2

3) area of shaded region= area of larger circle - area of smaller circle= 452.16 - 78.5= 373.66 cm^2
