the figure shown below, four glass vessels contain different amounts of water in it.

Arrange them in the ascending order of pressure exerted at the base of each vessel. Give

justification in support of your answer. [Do Not Draw]

b.) If the mass of water in vessel “D” is 500 gm and area of its base is 0.7m2

, find the pressure

exerted at the base of the vessel, in SI unit?

(Neglecting the mass of glass vessel) Consider acceleration due to gravity = 9.8m/s2

c.) Suppose, the water in the vessel “A” is replaced by honey, will there be any change in

pressure? Give reason.

7 Pascal pressure exerted by 500 gm water when area of base is 0.7m²

Explanation

Pressure = Force / Area

mass of water in vessel “D” is 500 gm and area of its base is 0.7m²

500 gm  = 0.5 kg

Force by 500 gm  mass = 0.5 * g

g = 9.8 m/s²

= 0.5 * 9.8

= 4.9  N

Area = 0.7m²

Pressure = 4.9/0.7   = 7  N/m²

1 N/m² = 1 Pascal

Pressure =  7 Pascal

if water is replaced by honey

as honey density is heavier than water

Hence mass of honey will be more for given volume

Hence pressure will increase
