The figure shown is composed of two squares .the area of the shaded region is 56sq cm.what is the side length of the larger square ,if the side length of the small square is 13 cm

let larger square side is S1 and smaller square side is S2

So

Shaded region area =larger square area -smaller square area

56=S1*S1-S2*S2

56=S^2-13*13

56=S^2-169

56+169=S1^2

225 = S1^2

√225= S1

15= S1
