The figure shows two circles with radii 3cm each intersecting at point A.If BC =3√2 cm,then find the shaded area. Assume B& C to be the centres of circles.

Given :  The figure shows two circles with radii 3cm each intersecting at point A . BC =3√2 cm

To Find : shaded area

Solution:

AC = AB = Radius = 3 cm

BC = 3√2

=> BC² = AC² + AB²

=> AC & BC are at right angle  

& BC is a diameter of circle passing though A , B & C

Radius = 3/√2 cm

Hence area of shaded region

= 2 * ( 90/360) π3²  -  3²

= 9π/2  - 9

= 9 (1.57 - 1)

= 9(0.57)

= 5.13 cm²

shaded area = 5.13 cm²
