The filament of a bulb is made up of tungsten which is having a very high melting point, it gets heated to so high temperatures that it starts to glow.

Tungsten has high melting point & very good tensile strength. Hence they are used in electric bulb. Light is produced by means of a wire or filament heated to incandescence(Point of emission of light when the body temperature raised) by the flow of electric current through it.
