The final average in a subject is determined by 3 tests and a final
examination. Each test is worth 15%, and the final exam is worth 55%.
A student received 65%, 75%, and 80% in the tests and 90% in the final
exam. Calculate the student's final mark for this subject based on the weighted average?

Answer:

Basically, take your your percentages, in my example:

Quizes - 89%

Tests - 94%

Homework - 83%

Participation - 99%

Then your weights:

Quizes = 20%

Tests = 30%

Homework = 30%

Participation = 20%

And finally, multiply the percentages (which must be converted to decimals) by the weights and add. So:

(quiz percent*quiz weight)+(test percent*test weight)+(homework percent * homework weight)+(participation percent*participation weight)

=

(.89*.20)+(.94*.30)+(.83*.30)*(.99*.20)

= .907

Of course you can just convert this to percents, which would give you 91%.

Hope this helps!
