yes he did right thing by rejecting the offer and marrying Mrs shorrocks. I think so because the daughters Amelia and Elizabeth are just showing that they will take care but they didn't they are face and have showing nature. while Abel was acting as he was dead Amelia take his sleeper and give it to her husband.and while Elizabeth come to see Abel get want tea first not to see her dad firstly.
