The finger-like outgrowths of Amoeba help to ingest food. However, the finger-like outgrowths of the human intestine help to absorb the digested food.(option - c).

  • The small intestine consists of finger-like projections formed by modification of mucosa layer called villi which help in the absorption of food.
  • The villi project towards the intestinal luminal cavity.
  • The villi consist of small fibers called microvilli which further increase the surface area for absorption of digested food.
  • The villus consists of columnar cells and goblet cells which secrete mucus.
  • Villi also flow by contracting motions that increase the blood and lymph flow again enhancing the absorption.
