1. The idea of la patrie and le citoyen emphasized the notion of a united community enjoying equal rights under a constitution.

2. A new French flag, tricolor was chosen to replace the royal standard. The estate general were elected by a body of active citizens and renamed the national assembly

3. New hyms were composed and oaths were taken and martyrs commemorated, all in the name of the nation

4. Internal custom duties were abolished and unfied system of weights and measurment were adopted.

5. Regional dialects were discouraged and French, as it was spoken in the capital Paris was declared as the common language of the nation.
