The first clown was appointed to make the king laugh. His job was nothing
but to make the king laugh when required. He didn’t look like the clowns
we see today. He did not wear big clothes nor did he paint his face as the
clowns do today.
The first clown to paint his face was from France. They called their clown
Little Peter or Pierrot. Everyone said, ‘He was the happiest man who
always made everyone laugh.’
One day, Little Peter was very sad but he had to make people laugh. He
thought, ‘How can this sad person make everyone laugh?’ He put on white
big trousers, a pointed hat, and large buttons which helped him to be a
funny man but there was great sadness on his face. Little Peter was a very
intelligent clown, too. He painted his face white so that no one could see
his sad face.
It is a very known fact today that the clowns in a circus or on TV
demonstrate so many items to make us laugh but we never notice their sad
faces.
