Answer:

Large generation of heat and heavy use of electricity.

Explanation:

The first generation computers used the Vacuum tubes for their operation which used to occupy large area of a room and most of the operation performed were completely mechanical in these computers. Vacuum tubes require a large cooling system for bringing down the heat which were also large in size. Vacuum tubes were in operation around 1940s. First generation computers had very less efficiency. They used large amount of electricity for their operation.

Machine language was used for the programming of the computers.

The computers used to shut down because of the large amount of generation of heat and heavy use of electricity which used to slow the system down and leading to ultimately shut down.

The first generation computers used to shut down because of huge valves used in the system and the justification for the statement is given below:

  • In the first generation computers heavy valves were used for the purpose of amplifying signals
  • A huge amount of electricity was consumed by this valve
  • Besides the Valves the other electronic component that was used in first-generation computers were vacuum tubes
  • The vacuum tubes were used during the period of 1940 to 1956
  • The vacuum tubes were used for circuitry purposes whereas the magnetic drums were used for memory
  • These devices were very large in size sometimes they take up the entire room.
  • The vacuum tubes were used to amplify the signals and it controls the movement of electrons in free space
  • These devices used a lot of heat and frequent fusing of insertion were taken place
  • This always lead the system to slow down and ultimate shut down
