Sulphur (S) 16 = 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p⁴

After 1st ionisation enthalpy, one electron get displaced

Sulphur (S) = 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p³

Phosphorous ( P) 15 = 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p³

After 1st ionisation enthalpy

Phosphorous (P) = 1s² 2s² 2p6 3s² 3p²

As we know, removing electrons from half filled and full filled orbit is little difficult. So when we see here in case of sulphur removing electrons is easy as we are making sulphur half filled p orbital. In phosphorous, it have half filled p orbital so it is difficult to remove. Because of that the first ionisation enthalpy of sulphur is lower than the first ignition enthalpy of phosphorus
