The first night, and he was confronted with action. He had lit a fire for himself. They
had forgotten to caution him about lighting the fire when they had left for the night
prowl. Roy had to guard the ammunition. Suddenly, he felt hands tightening on his
throat. He wriggled free but was flung aside. He thought it was an animal. A dark
shadow moved towards the store. At once, it dawned on Roy what was about to
follow. He must act.....immediately. Like a flash of lighting, he darted at the figure. A
shot was fired. Roy felt a sharp sting of pain but did not know where it was. He had
no time to consider that. He pretended to fall only to catch the man unawares as
soon as he turned to head for the store again. Fortunately, the lancer was right next
to him. He got his chance. The lancer went flying at the intruder and lay him down.
Roy first put out the fire. It was the fire that had given away his location to the enemy.
