Question

The first, third and fourth terms of a Proportion are 27, 63 and 84 respectively. The second term of the Proportion is

Answer

Given :-

First Proportion = 27

Second Proportion = ?

Third Proportion = 63

Fourth Proportion = 84

To Find :-

Value of second proportion.

Solution :-

Let the Value of second proportion be ' x '

And here , 27:?:63:84 ,

which means , 27 and 84 are Extremes where as ? and 63 are means [ value of ? taken to be 'x']

So ,

Product of Means = Product of Extremes

63 \times x \: = \: 27 \times 84 \\ 63x \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = 2268 \\ \: \: x \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = 2268 \div 63 \\ \: \: x \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = \: 36 \: \: \: (answer)

Therefore, the value of second term of Proportion is 36.

  • Know What IS Proportion :-

Proportion is the ratio of or we can say that its a statement that two ratio's are of equal value. To find the cross product of these values we simply multiply the outer 2 values called the Extremes n 2 inner values called the Means. And always product of Extreme is equal to that of product of Means.
