The fourth proportional is 40.

Given,

The proportion 15:20::30:x

To Find,

the value of x

Solution,

The four terms of a proportion are represented as:

first term : second term :: third term : fourth term.

We have been given the first three terms of a proportion.

We have to find the fourth term of the proportion. Let the fourth term of the proportion be x.

⇒ 15:20::30:x

⇒ 15/20 = 30/x

⇒ 15x = 30×20

⇒ 15x = 600

⇒ x = 600/15

⇒ x = 40
