The first three terms of an arithmetic sequence are U1 = 3k – 1, U2 = 4k + 1 and
U3 = 6k – 2. What is the value of k?

Answer:

as it is an arithmetic sequence so common difference are equal

U2-U1=U3-U2

=> (4k+1)-(3k-1)=(6k-2)-(4k+1)

=> 4k+1-3k+1=6k-2-4k-1

=> k+2=2k-3

=> k-2k= -3-2

=> -k= -5

=> k=5

value of k =5
