The first world was created a political and economical situation. It let to a huge increase in defense expenditure and this was financed by war loans and increasing taxes. Custom duties were raised and income tax was Introduced. Through the war years prices increased substantially becoming a problem for the common mass. Villages were called for supply of soldiers, forced recruitment in rural areas caused widespread anger. Acute shortage of good due to crop failure in several parts of India and influenza epidemic between 1918-21 made the life of common people miserable. People thought that after the war their hardships would be over but that did not happen. All of this led to the launching of the non cooperation movement.
