Given :

• Dimensions of the floor of a room :-

  • Length of the floor = 4 m
  • Breadth of the floor = 3 m

• Side of a square tile = 50 cm

To find :

• The number of square tiles of 50 cm which are required to cover the floor of the room

Concept :

Here, we have to find the number of tiles which are required to cover the floor of the room. So, firstly we will calculate the area of the floor of the room by using formula of area of rectangle. Then by using the formula to find the area of square, calculate the area of the square tile. To find the number of tiles required we will divide the area of the floor of the room by the area of square tiles.

Formula to find the area of rectangle :-

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

Formula to find the area of square :-

  • Area of square = a²

where,

• l denotes the length of the rectangle

• b denotes the breadth of the rectangle

• a denotes the side of the square

Solution :

Area of the floor of the room :-

→ Area of floor = l × b

→ Substituting the given values :-

→ Area of floor = 3 × 4

→ Area of floor = 12

Therefore, area of the floor of the room = 12 m²

Area of the square tile :-

→ Area of sqaure tiles = a²

→ Substituting the given values :-

→ Area of square tiles = (50)²

→ Area of square tiles = 2500

Therefore, the area of square tiles = 2500 cm²

The units of both the areas are different. So, we will change the unit of any one of the area. In order to get the right answer.

→ Area of the floor of room = 12 m²

As we know,

• 1 m² = 100² cm²

Multiply the value by 100² to convert it from m² into cm².

Area of floor = 12 m² = 12 × 100² = 120000 cm²

Number of tiles required to cover the floor of the room = Area of the floor of the room ÷ Area of sqaure tiles

→ Substituting the given values :-

→ No. of tiles = 120000 ÷ 2500

→ Cancelling the zeroes :-

→ No. of tiles = 1200 ÷ 25

→ No. of tiles = 48

Therefore, the number of tiles required to cover the floor of the room = 48
