Area of floor = Area of rectangle
= ( 12 × 9 ) m²
= 108 m²
= 1,080,000 cm²
Area of 1 tile = Area of square
= ( 12 )² cm²
= 144 cm²
∴ No. of tiles
= Area of floor / Area of 1 tile
= 1,080,000 cm² / 144 cm²
= 1,080,000 / 144
= 7,500
Hence, 7500 tiles are required to cover the floor.
