i) Measurements of tile = 20 cm × 20 cm

ii) The number of tile required if the tiles available were twice as long as the tile is 1688

Given:

The measurements of room is 15 m × 9 m

⇒ 15 m = 15 × 100 = 1500 cm  [∵ 1 m = 100 cm ]

⇒ 9 m = 9 × 100 = 900 cm

Dimensions of room in cm = 1500 cm × 900 cm

The number of tiles required for the room = 3375 square tiles

To find:

i) The measurements of tile and

ii) The number of tiles if the tiles available were twice as long used tile

Solution:

The area of the room = 15 m × 9 m = 135 m²

No. of tiles required for the room = area of the room/ area of tile

⇒ 3375 = 1500 cm × 900 cm / Area of the tile

⇒ 3375 = 1350000 / Area of the tile

⇒  Area of the tile  = 1350000/ 3375 = 400

⇒ Area of square tile = 400 cm²

⇒ side of the tile = \sqrt{400} = 20 cm

i) Measurements of tile = 20 cm × 20 cm

If the length of the tile is increased 20 cm

then length of tile = 20 + 20 = 40cm

⇒ dimensions of tile are 40 cm × 20 cm

area of the tile = 40 cm × 20 cm = 800 cm²

No. of required tiles = Area of room/ area of tile

=  1350000/ 800 = 1687.5

ii) The number of tile required = 1688
