Question :The floor of a room of size 7 m 50 cm x 4 m is to be covered by rectangular tiles of size  60 cm by 50 cm.

Find (i) the number of tiles required to cover the floor of the room and

(ii) the total cost if one dozen tiles cost 300.

Answer-100 tiles ; rupees 2,500

Solution :

Given :

Length of floor of room = L = 7 m 50 cm = 750 cm

Breadth of floor of room = B = 4 m = 400 cm

Length of rectangular tiles = l = 60 cm

Breadth of rectangular tiles = b = 50 cm

Find the number of tiles required to cover the floor of the room :-

Number of tiles = (L × B)/(l × b)

= (750 × 400)/(60 × 50)

= 100

Find the total cost of 100 tiles :-

1 Dozen = 12 tiles = Rs 300

100 tiles = (300 × 100)/12 = Rs 2500

Hence,

Number of tiles required to cover the floor of the room = 100

The total cost of 100 tiles = Rs 2500

OR

Dimensions of the room :

Length ( L ) = 7m 50cm = 750cm

Breadth ( B ) = 4m = 400 cm

Dimensions of each rectangular  tile :

length ( l ) = 60 cm

breadth ( b ) = 50 cm

Let the number of tiles required to  cover the floor = n

n = ( LB )/( lb )

= ( 750 × 400 )/( 60 × 50 )

n = 100

ii ) Given cost of 1 dozen tiles = Rs 300

Cost of 12 tiles = Rs 300

Now ,

cost of 100 tiles = ( 100/12 ) × 300

= Rs 2500

Therefore,

Number of tiles required = n = 100,

Total cost of the tiles = Rs 2500
