The floor of the room is 6m long and 4.2m wide.it has a border of 20cm laid with green marblr.the remaining floor has a white marble.find the area covered wth green and white marble

Length, l = 6 m

Breadth, b = 4.2 m

The area of the entire floor of the room,

= l * b

= 6 * 4.2

Dimensions of the floor with white marble (excluding the border of green marble):

New length = l – 2w = 6 – (2*0.2) = 5.6 m

New breadth = b – 2w = 4.2 – (2*0.2) = 3.8 m

Area of the remaining floor covered by the white marble,

= 5.6 * 3.8

= 21.28 m²

Therefore,  

The area covered by the border containing the green marble is given by,

= [Area of the entire floor of the room] – [Area of the remaining floor covered by the white marble]

=  25.2 m² – 21.28 m²

= 3.92 m²
