Given:-

  • focal length of the convex lens = 8cm
  • image to be formed (v) = 8cm

To find:-

Object distance.

Solution:-

From lens formula we can say that,

1/f=1/v-1/u where f is the focal length v is the image distance and u is the object distance.

Consider v as positive as the image distance is measured from the optic centre for convex lens.

v = 8 (given)

f = 10

Using Lens formula we get that,

1/u = 1/v -1/f

1/u = 1/8 - 1/10

1/u = 2/80

u = 80/2

u = 40 cm

To get the image between 8cm the object has to be at 40cm or less.
