Given :

  • The focus length of a concave mirror is - 10 cm .
  • Object distance (u) = - 20 cm. [concave mirror]
  • Height of object = 5 cm.

To Find :

  • The size of image formed .

Solution :

Using Mirror Formula : 1/f = 1/v + 1/u

⪼ - 1/10 = 1/v +(- 1/20)

⪼ - 1/10 = 1/v - 1/20

⪼ 1/20 - 1/10 = 1/v

⪼ (1 - 2)/20 = 1/v

⪼ - 1/20 = 1/v

⪼ v = - 20

  • Hence, the image distance = 20 cm.

Using Magnification Formula : hi/ho = -v/u

⪼ hi/5 = -(- 20)/(- 20)

⪼ hi/5 = -1

⪼ hi = -5

  • Hence , the height of the image = 5 cm.
