How do to :-

Here, we are given with the scores of Colin. We should calculate his mean score. The formula which is used to calculate the mean is given below. Then, we should find the mean of his new scores by using the score on Sunday. We can calculate the second mean by using the same formula. The mean is also known as Arthemetic mean.

\:

Solution (1) :-

Mean of Colin's scores :-

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{18 + 9 + 7 + 35 + 30 + 21 + 33 + 12 + 30 + 31}{10}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{99 + 127}{10}}

{\tt \leadsto \cancel \dfrac{226}{10} = \orange{\boxed{\tt Mean = 22.6}}}

\:

Solution (2) :-

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{18 + 9 + 7 + 35 + 30 + 21 + 33 + 12 + 30 + 31 + 27}{11}}

{\tt \leadsto \cancel \dfrac{253}{11} = \orange{\boxed{\tt Mean = 23}}}

\dashrightarrow Some related formulas :-

{\tt \to Mean = \dfrac{Sum \: of \: all \: observations}{Number \: of \: observations}}

{\tt \to Range = Maximum - Minimum}

More to know :-

  • Mean is also known as Arthemetic mean. It is calculated by a formula. It can also be known as average. To calculate this, first we should add all the observations together and then we should divide the obtained answer with number of observations.
  • Median is calculated by a process. First, we should arrange all the observations in ascending or descending order, later we should find out the middle number from that. If there are two numbers obtained we should add both of them and divide it by 2.
