The following are the marks of the 9 students in a class: 19,26,29,28,31,35,36,37,48. Find the median of these marks.

Given,

Total no. of students = 9

Marks of the 9 students in a class

= 19, 26, 29, 28, 31, 35, 36, 37, 48

In the above data, it can be seen that the marks obtained by the students are not in proper order.

So, The proper order of marks are as follows:--

19, 26, 28, 29, 31, 35, 36, 37, 48......(1)

Here,

No. of students , n = 9 is odd

So , The median will be in the form:-

 \frac{n + 1}{2} \: th \: observation

=  \frac{10}{2} th \: observation

= 5th observation

= 31 [From (1)]

So, The median of these marks is 31.
