The complete question with the required set of options is : The following bar graph summarizes the weather conditions in Crayonton for each day this month so far. Based on this data, what is a reasonable estimate of the probability that it is sunny tomorrow? Choose the best answer (The graph has been attached below).

a. 14

b. 17

c. 21

d. 25

Given :

A bar graph showing per day weather conditions in Crayonton for the present month so far.

To find :

The estimate of probability that it will be sunny tomorrow.

Solution :

• Probability of an event is given by : Number of favourable outcomes / Total number of possible outcomes

• According to the graph,

Number of sunny days experienced so far = 3

Number of cloudy days experienced so far = 5

Number of rainy days experienced so far3 = 2

Number of snowy days experienced so far = 2

• Adding all the numbers of days together, we get the total number of days gone so far.

∴ Total number of days already gone = 3 + 5 + 2 + 2 = 12 days

• Now, the probability of the next day being sunny is to be estimated. Therefore, our favourable outcome would be a sunny day.

• So, the probability of the day being sunny tomorrow (P) = Number of sunny days experienced so far / Total number of days gone so far

=> P = 3 / 12

=> P = 1 / 4

• Now, estimate of the probability of tomorrow being sunny = Percentage probability of tomorrow being sunny

• Percentage of any number is given by multiplying that number by 100 followed by a % sign.

∴ Probability estimate = (1 / 4) × 100 % = 25 % (option d)

Answer - A reasonable estimate of the probability that it will be sunny tomorrow is 25 %. Hence, option d is the best answer.
