The factors that cause the formation of current is the rising and the sinking the dense particles of heated water. The less dense particle rise while denser particles sink. When the hot less dense particles cool down and the other less dense particles rise convection current takes place. The plates are dragged by the current as they moved along making the plates push, slide and drift away from each other as the movement continues.
