The following diagram indicates the energy levels of a
certain atom when the system moves from 2 E level to
E, a photon of wavelength is emitted. The
wavelength of photon produced during its transition
from 4E/3
level to E
is
(1) lambda/3
(2) 3lambda/4
(3) 4lambda/3
(4) 3lambda

Answer:

(4) 3lambda

Explanation:

∆E = E2- E1 = hc/lambda

lambda = hc/∆E

case 1 : ∆E = 2E - E = E

hence lambda = hc/E

now case 2 : ∆E = 4E/3 - E =E/3

hence lambda' = hc/(E/3)

now, lambda'/ lambda = 3

therefore lambda' = 3×lambda
