Hydrogen chloride gas is prepared by treating Sodium chloride with concentrated sulphuric acid. The HCl gas is passed through a drying agent to remove moisture where concentrated sulphuric acid plays the role of dehydrating agent as well.

Answer:

Explanation:

NaCl+H₂SO₄(conc)=NaHSO₄  +HCl

The drying agent is concentrate sulphuric acid  because it is an acidic drying agent and other drying agents reacts with HCl

The temperature should be raised above 2000C during the preparation of hydro chloric acid because above this temperature it forms sticky substance sodium sulphate  that sticks to glass apparartus which becomes becomes difficult to remove and also cause wastage of heat
