The following questions consist of two statements: Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer

these questions selecting the appropriate option given below:

(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

(b) Both A and R are true and R is not the correct explanation of A.

(c) A is true but R is false.

(d) A is false but R is true.

1. Assertion (A): Tungsten metal is used for making filament of electric bulb.

Reason (R): The melting point of tungsten is very low.

2. Assertion (A): The value of the current in the ammeter is same, independent of its position

in the electric circuit.

Reason (R): In a series combination of resistors, the current is the same in every part of
the circuit or the same current through each resistor.

Answer: 1. (c) A is true but R is false.

              2. (d) A is false but R is true.

Explanation:

  • We know that the tungsten is used to make filaments for a bulb due to its high melting point.

So, we can say that here Assertion is true but the  reason is not correct explanation for the statement above.

  • So, we can say that answer is option c.
  • Here, the statement says that value of current is same in the ammeter instead of its position in the electric circuit, which is wrong the value of ammeter changes if the circuit is parallel.
  • In the series combination the the current is equal through all the resistors or throughout the circuit.

So, the answer is Assertion is false but the reason is true.

  • Hence, the correct answer is option c and option d respectively for 1 and 2 respectively.
