The following questions involve temperature conversions.
5.2.1 Freezing point of Chloroform is -63.5 ◦C. What is the equivalent in ◦F and Kelvin?

5.2.2 Methyl alcohol evaporates at 148.5°F. What is the equivalent in Kelvin and ◦C?

1. 63.5/100=Tf-32/180

114.3=Tf-32

Tf=114.3+32=146.3°

Answer:

209.5 K,  82.3 F, 64.72 C, 337.72 K.

Explanation:

For the first case we are given the temperature or the freezing point of Chloroform as -63.5 degree Celsius. So, we know that the kelvin temperature is given as K=C+273 = 273-63.5 = 209.5 K will be the temperature in kelvin scale.

While the temperature in degree F will be F=(C*1.8) + 32 which on solving we will get that F=(-63.5*1.8) + 32 = -114.3 +32 = 82.3 F.

For the methyl alcohol the temperature in Fahrenheit scale is given as 148.5 F so the temperature in Celsius is 5(F-32)/9 which on solving we will get that 5(148.5-32)/9 which will be 64.72 degree Celsius. The temperature in Kelvin scale will be K=64.72+273 = 337.72 K.
