The following results have been obtained during the kinetic studies of the reaction: 2A + B → C + D

Exp [A] [B] Initial rate

I 0.1 0.1 6.0 × 10–3

II 0.3 0.2 7.2 × 10–2

III 0.3 0.4 2.88 × 10–1

IV 0.4 0.1 2.40 × 10–2

Determine the rate law and the rate constant for the reaction.

1. Describe the following process:

a) Electro-osmosis b) Zeta potential c) Micelles

2. Explain giving reason:

a) The enthalpies of atomization of the transition metals are high.

b) Cr+3 reducing and Mn+3oxidising when both have d4 configuration.

c) The Eo values for Mn3+/Mn2+ couple much more than for Cr3+/Cr2+ or Fe3+/Fe2+.

3. Bleaching of flowers by Chlorine is permanent while that by sulphur dioxide is temporary. Explain with the help of chemical reactions
