(a) the seagull was starving. When he caught sight of his mother bringing food, he was overfilled with joy. He expressed his happiness by uttering a joyful scream. He leaned out and tried to get nearer to her as she flew across the sky. He tapped into the rock with his feet out of excitement.

(b) Mr Herriot was tempted to keep tricki as a permanent guest. While tricki was in surgery Ms Pumphrey would send lots of wine, brandy and dozens of eggs to build up its strength. However, it was of no use to tricki and was delightfully enjoyed by the doctor and his staff. Therefore it became tempting for the doctor to keep tricki as a permanent guest and continue receiving the delights.

(c) To mandella during childhood freedom meant to make merry and have fun. Once one grows into an adult, the joys of childhood are snatched away and the individual is burdened with the responsibility of earning a livelihood.

(d) when Hari had stolen Anil's money, he was met with a dilemma. Although he managed to steal the money, he could not make it to the train on time. He was torn between his thoughts. On one hand, he was happy that he had stolen the biggest amount of money in his life and on the other he was sad that he had broken the trust Anil had put in him.

(e) Dust of snow means fine particles of snow or snowflakes. The poet's mood changed from dismay to joy when he was regretful about his day and suddenly this dist of snow fell on him. The simple object changed his mood.
