Given : age in years of employees of a firm

the model age is 32 years

Age in years       20-25 25-30 30-35 35-40 40-45

no of employees  5         -           18        9        6

To Find : Missing Frequency

Solution:

age in years   no of employees

20-25                  5

25-30                   X

30-35                   18

35-40                    9

40-45                   6

Mode of age = 32

hence lies in class 30 - 35

Mode = 30  + 5 × (  18 - X)/(18 - X  + 18 - 9)

=> 32 = 30  + 5 × (18 - X)/(27 - X)

=> 2 = 5 × (18 - X)/(27 - X)

=> 54 - 2X =  90 - 5X

=> 3X = 36

=> X = 12

Missing frequency is 12
