(I) Batting average in the first innings

 =  \frac{sum \: of \: the \: first \: innings \: scores}{number \: of \: first \: innings \: played}

 =  \frac{32 + 11 + 0 + 46 + 23 + 14}{6}  =  \frac{126}{6}  = 21

Batting average in second innings

 =  \frac{9 + 28 + 12 + 54 + 13 + 63}{6}  =  \frac{179}{6}  = 29.83

Thus, Aditya's batting average was better while playing in the second innings.

(II) Average of first 3 matches

 =  \frac{total \: runs \: scored \: in \: the \: frst \: 3 \: matches}{3}

 =  \frac{41 + 39 + 12}{3}  =  \frac{92}{3}  = 30.6

Average of last 3 matches

 =  \frac{total \: runs \: scored \: in \: last \: 3 \: matches}{3}

 =  \frac{100 + 36 + 77}{3}  =  \frac{213}{3}  = 71

Thus, he batted better in the last three matches.

(III) Batting average for the last 6 matches

 =  \frac{total \: runs \: scored \: in \: the \: last \: 6 \: matches}{6}

 =  \frac{305}{6}  = 50.83

We have seen that:

average =  \frac{sum \: of \: measures \: }{number \: f \: measures}

The following two formulas can be easily derived from the above formula :

Sum of measures = Average × Number of measures

Number of measures

 =  \frac{sum \: of \: measures}{average}

* The average is also called the mean or the Arithmetic Mean.
