The foot of an elephant has an area of 250cm2. If the mass of the elephant is 2400 kg, find the pressure exerted by the elephant on the ground. (g=10N).

Given that : The foot of an elephant has an area of 250 cm²  

( As we know that : 1m = 100cm => 1 cm = 1/100m )

250 cm² = 250/10000 = 0.0250 m²  

As we also know that elephant has four feet  

then, total area = 4×0.0250 = 0.1 m²

Also given that : Mass = 2400 kg

So Force = mg = 2400 x 10 = 24000 N

Then, Pressure = Force / Area

=> Pressure = 24000/0.1 N/m²

=> Pressure = 240000 N/m² or 240000 Pascal
