The force acting on a unit area of a surface is called pressure.

\Large{\underline{\underline{\bf{More\:To\:Know:-}}}}

\implies The amount of force exerted on a surface, per unit area, is called pressure (P). It can also be defined as the ratio of the force to the area over which the force is acting.

\implies The unit of pressure is the pascal (Pa), equivalent to one newton per metre sqaure.

For example, it is easier to hammer a sharp pin on a wooden surface than to hammer a blunt pin. The smaller the area, the larger will be the pressure on a surface for the same force. The area of the pointed end of the nail is much smaller than that of its head. The same force, therefore, produces a pressure sufficient to push the pointed end of the nail into the wooden plank.
